📖 HOW TO PLAY SPADES

1. Objective & Teams

Spades is played in 2-player partnerships (Seat 1+3 vs Seat 2+4). First team to reach the match target score (250, 300, or 500 pts) wins!

2. Bidding Phase

At the start of each hand, look at your cards and bid the exact number of tricks ("books") you estimate you can win (0 to 13).

Your bid is added to your partner's bid to set your Team Goal.

3. Card Ranking & Trump (♠️)

Rank Order: Ace (highest) down to 2 (lowest).
Spades are Trump: Any Spade card beats all non-Spade cards regardless of rank.
Must Follow Suit: You must play a card matching the lead suit if you have one. If you can't follow suit, you can trump with a Spade or throw off.
Breaking Spades: You cannot lead a trick with a Spade until Spades have been "broken" (played on a previous trick when a player couldn't follow suit).

4. Scoring & Bags

Meet Team Bid: Earn 10 points per trick bid + 1 point for each extra trick ("bag").
Miss Team Bid ("Set"): Lose 10 points per trick bid (e.g., bidding 6 and winning 5 loses -60 pts).
10-Bag Penalty: Accumulating 10 bags incurs a -100 point penalty!
